2009 Float
Rules and Acknowledgement Form
The
recommended maximum dimensions for a float are:
Height 10’ Width 10’ Length 20’
• All floats must have a minimum 8” clearance
from the ground.
• All
floats must be pulled by a motorized vehicle. People or animals may
not be used to pull a float.
• The float and pull vehicle must be able to travel slow
enough to avoid stalling.
• Float entries should have plans for towing in the event
of a mechanical breakdown.
• Floats must be decorated on all four sides.
• No fire or flame-producing devices are allowed on floats.
• The float and/or pull vehicle MUST carry at least one
fire extinguisher.
• No alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, or firearms may be
used at any time by any participant on a float or in a pull vehicle.
• Participants riding on float will not be permitted to
hang their feet over the edges.
• Each float must have 2-4 float guides to accompany the
float by foot.
These guides should be trained to keep spectators away from
the floats and to advise
the pull vehicle driver regarding back-up maneuvers.
• Minors riding on a float must be accompanied by an adult.
The float must accommodate the number of riders safely.
• Persons affiliated with the float’s sponsor
may accompany the float on foot.
• Pull vehicle drivers must be at least 25 years of age.
• Pull vehicle drivers must be able to show, on parade
day, a valid driver’s
license, vehicle insurance and current registration.
• Pull vehicle drivers must be able to see 180 degrees
from the driver’s
seat.
• Pull vehicle drivers must be able to maneuver the float
into 90 degree turns at intersections. Drivers must remain in control of
the float at all times.
• All connections to trucks and trailers must be functioning
properly.
ANY VIOLATION OF THESE FLOAT RULES WILL RESULT IN SUSPENSION OF THE ENTRY
IN THE PARADE.
Entry fees will not be refundable. Keep a copy of these rules
for your records.
All applications must be postmarked no later
than DECEMBER 02, 2009.
